Un château Renaissance restauré par le Département

L’existence d’une maison-forte est avérée au XIIe siècle. Entre 1500 et 1530, Lancelot Ier du Lac, Chambellan de Louis XII et Gouverneur d’Orléans, entreprend la reconstruction de l’ancienne bâtisse médiévale de Chamerolles afin d’en faire un véritable château de plaisance répondant aux canons de la Renaissance. Le parti architectural (décor de briques polychromes, galerie couverte…) s’inspire en partie de l’aile Louis XII du château de Blois, construite vers 1500 et bien connue de Lancelot.

En 1672, Chamerolles appartient à Jacques Saumery, beau-frère de Colbert. Il est gouverneur du château royal de Chambord et du comté de Blois, maréchal des armées du roi et grand-maître des Eaux et Forêts d’Ile-de-France. En 1774, le château passe entre les mains de la famille Lambert et en 1924 entre celles de Gaston Jessé-Curély. Occupé, saccagé, dépouillé pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il est mis en vente en 1970.

En 1976, la Ville de Paris se retrouve avec la charge de Chamerolles. Délaissé, le château tombe en ruines. En 1987, cette merveille de l’architecture du XVIe siècle entre dans le patrimoine départemental du Loiret. Le Département entreprend alors un ambitieux programme de restauration du château. L’aspect séduisant que lui avait donné la Renaissance a été retrouvé pour l’essentiel comme le montre les images dans le diaporama affiché sur cette page. Aujourd’hui, Chamerolles est dédié à l’histoire de la parfumerie et des domaines intimement liés comme l’hygiène.
